Nurse practitioners (NPs) are nurses who have achieved a Master's degree level of specialty education in order to autonomously diagnose and treat medical conditions, order and interpret medical tests, prescribe and manage medication, and refer to specialists. Our Nurse Practitioners at Dakova Health offer OAT therapy, assist with medication management, provide specialized assessments, facilitate in-home recovery/therapy, and provide household support.

Nicholas Fitterer is a Nurse Practitioner with broad experience in primary care, oncology, addiction medicine, and community-based health services. He is committed to providing holistic, trauma-informed, and patient-centred care, taking the time to understand each person’s physical, emotional, and social needs.

Nicholas believes in working collaboratively with patients, supporting informed decision-making, and creating a safe, respectful environment where individuals feel heard and valued. His approach is grounded in compassion, evidence-informed practice, and respect for each patient’s lived experience.

In addition to clinical practice, Nicholas teaches in undergraduate nursing programs, which helps keep his care current, thoughtful, and aligned with best practices. He holds a Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) and a Bachelor of Nursing with distinction.

Outside of work, Nicholas enjoys being outdoors, staying active, and spending time with his wife and three daughters.

Angela has over 15 years of experience in the area of health care. She has worked in a variety of professions spanning both the private and public sectors including recreational therapy, peer support, and mental health and addiction counselling. Angela’s personal and professional experience eventually led to her passion in the field of addiction recovery. She graduated from the University of Victoria’s Social Work program and has previous education in psychology and therapeutic recreation. Angela continues to train in trauma-informed practice including areas such as somatic experiencing and she is currently completing her Master’s in Social Work at Dalhousie University.

Dr. Lawlor is a skilled, compassionate, and solution-focused mental health and addiction professional with over 17 years of clinical and leadership experience in the field. He has held clinical and management positions in inpatient, outpatient, and continuing care settings. He has comprehensive experience in the development and implementation of person-centered, culturally-aware and trauma-informed mental health and substance use disorder programming. His work is grounded in evidence-based programming and focused on attaining and sustaining long-term recovery. This approach is further enhanced through an emphasis on the role of social connectedness and individual empowerment during the healing process. His training includes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Written Exposure Therapy (WET).
